NEW HEADER
Its time for a new header on my blog.
xcv is the Roman numerals for 95 and Domus is the translation for house. I quickly made this header whilst getting to grips with letter press.
Im not sure if this improves the overall aesthetics of the page, i would like to start working to create a visual identity for the blog. Possibly moving it on to a wordpress site with a proper domain name?

St Bride Library
Recently I attended a talk at the St. Bride Library, the talk was all about the history of the printed word. The speaker was absolutely fascinating, he had an encyclopedic knowledge on the subject and talked in a gripping manner. Luckily for me, this talk was arranged as part of my course. However there are seminars and lectures that anyone can attend by booking, though slightly pricey, i am almost sure they will be well worth it. I am going attend one, that is for sure. In addition the library its self is vast, containing ''All the classic works on printing technique, visual style, typography, graphic design, calligraphy and more.''
Take a look at the website HERE.

I recently purchaced a new whiteboard, i also did a bit of DIY to make an inspirational pen holder. Hopefully this will allow me not to have to get out of bed, to write down all the ideas that i should have had in the day time, that seem to come to me as i am trying to sleep!

Maestro knows
MAESTRO ON DRUMS PT 2 from TONE on Vimeo.
So, this guy, Levi Maestro is the man. He is a skateboarder living in LA, who now seems to do anything that he sets his mind to, he shoots videos, designs clothes and has his own show, Meastro knows. He got everywhere he has been with a nothing ventured, nothing gained approach and a super positive attitude. Take a look.

Stop Motion
The other day i had my first work shop in stop motion. Working with this process has a large potential for creativity and in a world CGI it maintains a nice organic quality to it. i have been looking through the internet to find some inspiration. These are a few of my favorite videos so far.
This Coldplay video is so good, no?

10 down 90 to go
It feels like it has taken forever for me to get started on these collages, which is probably because it actually has, i am going on the theme of 100 different animals. I dont know if i am going to be able to make every one different and interesting, but i can try. Here are the first 10, on the whole i am quite happy with how they are going, now i just need to start racking up the numbers. I think i wil start with a pig next!

nice pamphlet design and logo from my new Edwin jeans. this old Japanese brand is responsible for creating many original denim processes and this seems to represent the heritage and the general feel of the company perfectly.

GASTROTYPOGRAHICASSEMBLAGE, apprently
The other day we met at old St station to go on a school trip! First stop Lou Dorfman's exhibition at the kemistry gallery. The work entitled gastrotypographicassemblage was displayed as a scaled down photo piece, depicting the original wooden work that used to hang in the CBS canteen, nonetheless it still had a grand impact. The brochure describes the work as “completely of its time but enduring in its appeal”. An example of work I feel has been strongly influenced would be this promotional poster from the graphics course at Falmouth.
After that we went on to the White Cube gallery. Although not expressly a graphic design exhibition, the work provide food for thought on graphic elements, such as the power of repetition in type and collage techniques for our 100 collage assignment.
here are some photos from the day here are some photos from the day

Brit insurance design awards
A couple of days ago I took a trip down to the design museum on south bank and had a look around the ‘Brit insurance, designs of the year’ exhibition. Last year Shepard Fairey’s unofficial Obama campaign poster won the show, that was a massively influential piece of work, so I was excited to see what had made the shortlist this year.
The exhibition its self was set out into thematic categories, such as social enablement, global and sustainable solutions and everyday design, rather than just being split up by the judged categories, graphics, furniture, fashion etc. This combined with the interactive works created an engaging and thought provoking show.
My favourite pieces included this ltd. Edition vinyl cover for Pet shop boys ‘Yes’ album. It’s the kind of item I dream of owning, even though I don’t have a love of the pet shop boys or a record player.
Perhaps the most fascinating works for me was the book ‘Pig 05049’ which documents the journey of a pig after its death; it shows the 185 products the randomly selected porker was used to make after being shipped off around the world. The study is all wrapped up into a beautifully clinical layout and book design

Today my housemate Anna and I took a walk in the sun down the south bank, to the 2010 Brit Insurance Design Awards. More to come on that tomorrow. This evening i have been working on a quick clear up of the layout and header of the blog and i think it is starting to look cleaner.

Never Sleep
Good advice from Dan and Andre of Dress code NY. Also the name of there book that i have just finished reading. As a student just embarking on higher education the thought of graduating with a strong enough portfolio of work to secure a good job is both exciting and troublesome, this duo both aged in there early 20's have already put in a few years working as graphic designers for MTV, quit and set up there own successful studio. this is one of the only books that i have come across which charts the transition from the learning environment to the workplace and was and encouraging and inviting read through out.
